The owner of this historic property desired a unique woody plant collection that challenged the constraints of our climate zone.
Originally designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and Ellen Biddle Shipman in 1897, this restored garden includes formal symmetric planting beds and hedging with an effective casual planting style within. Ancient surrounding trees and the romance of a restored wall surround helped create a new secret garden, and custom brick edging of beds set the tone for a multi-year installation as rare and unique materials were gathered.
